FAMILIES WITH SIMCHAS IN 2025

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

1. SPEAK TO THE RABBI - rabbi@beby.org or call 416-633-3838 ex 245

Approve the date with Rabbi Morrison. He will want to meet with you. After you meet with him, call the office to secure the date.

2. TUTORS - contact the office 416-633-3838

You are required to arrange for a Bar/Bat Mitzvah tutor for your child. The office can send you a list of approved tutors. If you do not use a BEBY approved tutor; your tutor must be approved by Rabbi Morrison.

3. SPONSORSHIPS - contact the office 416-633-3838

When having a Shabbat morning simcha (celebration), you are requested to sponsor the Congregational Kiddush, as well as have a private meal with APEX Kosher Catering.

Arrange a meeting with the rabbi 4-6 weeks before your simcha.

The requirements for Bar/Bat Mitzvah at the Beth Emeth Bais Yehuda are expectations that we feel can be achieved by every candidate. 

At Beth Emeth Bais Yehuda we see the Bar/Bat Mitzvah experience as part of a continual commitment to the essentials which make up our Jewish heritage and tradition.  We would like the experience of Bar/Bat Mitzvah to be expressed within the family unit as well as the synagogue. We hope that the entire family will suppport, encourage and participate together with the Bar/Bat Mitzvah in this significant stage of transition, from childhood to adolescence and maturity. 

Bar Mitzvah and Bat Mitzvah means "one is obligated to fulfill the commandments. It is both a privilege and a great responsibility.  It is a milestone which requires much hard work and discipline. This booklet will help you on your road to becoming a Bar/Bat Mitzvah and a mature participant within the Jewish community.

Since 2012, Bat Mitzvah candidates and their families who desire Torah reading as a centerpiece of the Bat Mitzvah experience may schedule a private family service on a Monday, Thursday, or another weekday when the Torah is read.  These, like all bar/Bat Mitzvah services, are scheduled with the office and must be approved by the Rabbi.
