Out of the Cold
For many years each winter the Beth Emeth Bais Yehuda Synagogue opened its doors during the cold winter months for the vulnerable people in our community. This program provided a warm and welcoming atmosphere, a hot kosher meal, gently used clothing, a warm bed to sleep in, a bagged lunch, TTC tokens, and a visit with an onsite nurse and toiletries. We served dinners for up to 90 guests and had up to 30 guests sleep over each Monday evening.
Unfortunately, the Covid 19 pandemic changed our program as we were not able to host guests at our Synagogue.
However, the pandemic did not stop Beth Emeth from helping the homeless as we have partnered with the Coalition to Fight Homelessness, which runs a Out of the Cold program in Toronto's downtown core at Saint Luke's United Church. For the past few years we have provided the site with over 300 sandwiches each week for a 10-week period. The sandwiches were a huge success.
We are grateful for your interest and look forward to resuming our program next winter.
